Trash talkin' Tuesday...A trunk, rethunk!

Hidy-ho Sisters! Can't believe it's been two weeks,

 since last we talked about a 'trashy revamp'!

Today, I want to talk about the livingroom with ya'll...it's a place we all like to gather every evening...so, I thought it'd be a great place to meet today!

We're gettin' thrifty with an old TRUNK...RE-THUNK!

If you've got an old trunk layin' around in the basement, or up in the attic...and you're not sure what to do with it...then, maybe you'll love my workable idea!

I took this old trunk, flipped it upside down...took off it's rounded top from it's rusty hinges...and put it back on the floor in front of my couch...

And, now...it's my living room 

COFFEE TABLE! 

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it's worn out and rustic look...along side my husband's leather recliner...it just adds that antique look I'm striving for, next to a more modern soft-suede style sofa. 

It's top is a bit on the rusty side, with it's metal exterior...but with an added wood tray on top, it's the perfect surface to display a little wicker organization for the tv changer, as well as my new recipe book....a gift from our from Swedish exchange student! 

Short and sweet...It's a quick revamp, for what was just another trunk in the basement! What's waiting for you down there? 

Maybe it's time for a trash walk down to the dungeon...ya just never know what you've forgotten down there...

FIBER-licious Fridays #2

Hidy-Ho Sisters! And...Back at ya there, girlfriends! It's FIBER-licious Fridays again!! Seriously...my favoritist day of the week!

Last week, we talked about revamping a bedroom in the upstairs part of my home...and actually, we haven't made much progress...because we're still in there...WORKING, that is!

 

I just love these little guys! Don't have a darn clue what they're sayin'...but that's alright! Twyla and I have that problem somedays too...lol!

So, we just "WING IT"....and hope for the best! Gotta get a good laugh at ourselves occassionly, and then...LIFE IS GOOD!

 

"Back to school"...CAN'T COME SOON ENOUGH! So, today...I'm in the dungeon, with my little minions...slaving away on this Dresser Makeover...and hiding out from the children upstairs who are screaming at each other...God help us all! lol!

 

 

I got my dresser, that I picked up from Goodwill quite a few months back now...for $5!

 It's missing a bit of the drawer, but who cares...everything else is in great shape! So, I dragged her home...sanded her down a bit to knock the crud off of her...then, got my Primer-in-a-can...and away I sprayed! I did wear a mask...it can get pretty fumey, if you're in a tight unventilated basement like mine!

 

 And, while I was at it...I sprayed all the existing hardware that came on it when I purchased it...was brass before...now it's GRANITE!

 Gotta love this 2X Ultra Cover Spray paint, it's for wood, metal or plastic!

 

Still painting it black...sorry, NO MORE PICS there...gotta wait til' next week for that! I know...the suspense is killing me too!

 

BUT...I will give ya some more to sink your teeth into here sisters!

 

I went to Hobby Lobby for some great inspiration...thinkin' about Zebra Print here...and WHA-LA!

I picked up 2 posters the size of the drawer fronts when finished...which I'll mod podge onto the drawer fronts this weekend, after the last coat of paint is cured on the top, and sides...so it adheres well to the wood drawer below it.

 

And, NOW to the next planning phase...

CARPET & ROOM DECOR!

How better to pick out new carpet, then with a design inspiration of the rooms' mere existence... ALL working out ahead of me!

 Gotta love the striped texturing here!

 See how it's striped...and tone on tone?! Gotta love the play with color and texture here...keeping it simple, but VIBRANT!

It all picks up the NATURAL LIGHT perfectly in this room!

And that's what we want...not dull and boring...we already have that...lol!

 Next...mirrors! 3 floor length mirrors from Menard's...on sale for only $10 each! All total...one mirror for only $30! Can't beat that with a stick, now can ya?! They'll be hung accordingly...like I have them (laying on the floor here) up on the wall, about an inch or two apart from each other...ABOVE THE NEW DRESSER we're still working on!

 

And...it wouldn't be fun without some THRIFTY FABRIC...that we acquired from a yard sale find, now would it?!

 A plate for something...haven't got that far yet...lol! A behind the door catch-all for this and that...maybe bathroom or make up supplies to carry with you, instead of leaving it all over the bathroom...TEENAGERS, ya know! Thinkin' ahead of course...lol! And a groovy pillow for the new bed or chair!

 2 Velvet Valances...BLACK! Perfect for our new look...ZEBRA INSPIRED!

 A natural rattan cube to store all kinds of things inside of it...OUT OF SIGHT...OUT OF MIND!

GOTTA LOVE IT! ONLY $3.00!

 

We'll be painting up a storm...doing some more crazy shopping this week...of course!

We NEED a colorful bed ensemble yet...along with YES>>>>

MORE FURNITURE MAKEOVERS TO COME!

 

We're salvaging an old desk...and an old oak entertainment center...for an office nook!

Trash Talkin' Tuesdays # 2

Hello, My Sisters! Hope you had a great week since we last met for some Trash Talkin'!

 

Today we're featuring a quick craft corner make over...for just about anyone who crafts, scrapbooks, sews, or "Upcycles"...like us!

 

Found this handy dandy lil' kitchen towel holder, that's supposed to hang on a wall, today at the thrift store up in Manitowoc, WI.

 

I paid a whole $1.50 for it! Whoop! Whoop!

 

The greatest part of this little wood find, is that it has a shelf inside of it...which easily slides out for a little more storage room! I love that! Don't you?!

 As you can see, I turned it upside down on itself, inverted the shelf to go the other way, and placed it nicely on the counter surface below.

 

Now...like you all, I have a ton of ribbon, lying around in different areas...needing someplace clever to go of course!

 

I've seen a lot of different crafters utilize a towel holder for ribbon storage, because it can easily be cut at length from it's round-a-bout storage area. So, when I found this wall unit today...I said to myself, "Whoa sister, BONUS BABY!"...it has a little drawer to store EVEN MORE!

How can you go wrong with even MORE STORAGE?!

 

 I screwed off the end knob...and began sliding the different ribbon rolls onto the towel dowel...and when I was finished,

it was ready to measure and cut!

 

 

  

Don't forget the EXTRA storage space below...got that full, too!

 

 

 

Seriously sisters, how can you go wrong with investing $1.50?!

 

 

 

It's definitely worth it's 'weight in ribbon' after today!

FIBER-licious Fridays!

What's it going to be 'girl'?...YES or...NO?! Once, your hooked....

YOUR HOOKED!

What are we talkin' bout here? FIBER Addictions...of course! hehehe!

 

And we sisters...have it in SPADES around here!

 And...today, it's just PLUM PERFECT!

What better way to pick out a color for your upcoming bedroom project, than utilizing that which you love to wear?!

 

I pulled a favorite purse...love the texture here! And a little sparkly headband, with a large silver pin...and married it to a color chart from one of my favorite paint chips that I hand selected...

from a Sherwin Williams Paint deck. The paint color that I'm considering is called: #6837 Baroness

 

Hence, the 2 pillows Twyla and I found...that come into play very nicely...don't ya think?!

 

Together, we found some great fabric at Hobby Lobby, that truly brings another element in altogether now...It's more graphic and colorful...and it brings in some 'swagger' here!

 Possibly thinking about covering this cute parlor chair I found at the local ReStore a few weeks ago now...I need a desk chair! And this rocks!

 

Now...I'm also thinkin' a little ZEBRA stripes coming into play somewhere in this room too!

But that'll be for another segment of this bedroom redo!

Gotta keep you in suspense here...RIGHT?!

Just think DESK! That's right...we're going to do a desk redo...next FRIDAY...stayed tuned; you really don't want to miss that! Remember, WOOD IS FIBER, TOO!

 

 

Now...girls...you gotta have a plan of sorts! You can't rock it out, without a plan...it doesn't have to be fancy...it can look a bit like my quickly drawn diagram here...

 

The color I'm trying to sink my teeth into here, is the one in the middle...think something gold/yellow for it's companion color...and you've gotta a good wall choice, as your upcoming background now!

 

And that would be...#6674 Jonquil

 

 

And...maybe an accent wall color: #6416 Sassy Green...we'll think bed wall here! 

 

 

Now...of course we have to have a neutral color to tie it all together...we've got black and metallic...we need a lighter color for the ceiling now, to keep it sunny and bright...not to dark, but OH, JUST RIGHT!

Now...if you've been paying attention, my fine sisters...you can see how we've been choosing our colors here...with FIBER-liciousness!

 

Not to bust your bubble here...but, it all comes together in the end...Trust me!

 Yikes...now, that isn't inspiring at all! LOL....that's what progress does to ya, when you're in Menards and the flyer says...SALE! BUY ME! And then, you bring it home...and shove it in another room til' your ready to install it!

Hey ya'll! Hope your Wednesday is just what you thought it was going to be today....WONDERFUL, just like yourself!

Wednesdays, being the middle of the week...have a tendency to get a bit overwhelming.

It's in the mist of the week, everything gets all mixed up and crazy...
that's why THE SISTERS are welcoming you to take a break today...to stop beating yourself up...to take a breathe...do something you don't usually do on a daily basis!
It breaks up the monotony of your week!

And by all means...don't forget to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!

 

Prayer helps us to focus less on our troubles, and gives us quiet time with the Father...helping us then, to feel more confident in ourselves and our circumstances, which are out of our control anyway!

'TRASH TO TREASURE' TUESDAYS

Hey there sisters! It's time to start talkin' TRASH! We're going to get a little dirty here today girls! We're heading into the bathroom...but it's all good stuff, I promise!
Was out yard sailin' around town with my mom last weekend and found some great useable finds!

An old porcelain coffee pot, to be exact! I picked it up, put it down, walked around, then came back to it...only to put it in my large growing pile of other things I collected already. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, til' I got home that afternoon.
When I stepped into the bathroom to put a few other items away...like the big bag of toilet paper I got at Target that day... all of a sudden...I had a huge brainstorm!

I ran out to my car to finish unloading my loot...ran back into the bathroom, and...my idea was born!

I quickly popped the top, made haste to grab a single roll of toilet paper...

And, just like that...a star was born...toilet paper in an old coffee urn! Quite cliche' , if you get my meaning' there...lol! Coffee and the potty...two things that definitely go together!

Now that's what I call..."Good, clean fun!" How 'bout you?!
